Rebuilding Your Identity After Retirement: A Moment, A Mug, and a New Mission

The Coffee Moment That Changed Everything
It was a quiet morning. I sat in the same spot I had sat for years—coffee in hand, no Zoom calls on the schedule, no urgent emails to reply to.
But something was different.
As I stared into that cup, a question bubbled up that I never expected:
“Who even needs me today?”
It hit hard. After decades of being needed—as a leader, a strategist, a spokesperson, a mentor, and a problem-solver—it was eerily silent. That moment marked the beginning of a journey I hadn’t planned for: finding out who I was now.
Why Identity Feels So Fragile After Retirement
If you’ve ever felt untethered after retirement, you’re not alone.
We don’t just retire from a job.
We step away from titles, routines, daily structure, relevance, and sometimes even our sense of worth. And society doesn’t exactly hand us a new blueprint for who we’re supposed to be next.
That’s why the question of identity after retirement is so crucial.
It’s not about reinventing yourself completely.
It’s about rediscovering the woman you were before the roles took over—and reclaiming the best parts of her.
What I Did Next (and What You Can, Too)
That single question led me down a path of reflection, mindset work, and honest journaling. I didn’t find answers overnight—but I started asking better questions:
What do I want to wake up for now?
What values still anchor me?
What legacy do I want to leave?
These questions became the foundation of what I now teach in my coaching programs and workshops. And they all started from that mug of coffee and a sense of emptiness I couldn’t ignore.
In fact, I recently came across an article from Harvard Health that beautifully reinforces the very process I guide women through in my Retirement Reimagined Academy. From journaling and reflection to reconnecting with long-lost passions and contributing to something greater than yourself—it all aligns with the work we do together.
Because finding purpose after retirement isn’t a luxury.
It’s the key to a meaningful next chapter.
How the Retirement Reimagined Academy Was Born
Out of my own transition came a mission: to help other high-achieving women design a retirement that feels like a new beginning—not a slow fade.
Last month, I officially launched the Spring 2025 cohort of the Retirement Reimagined Academy, a 5-week guided journey to rebuild purpose, clarity, and identity. The women in this group are incredible. They’re rediscovering their voice, their spark, and the next chapter they were meant to write.
But you don’t need to be in a formal program to begin.
Sometimes all it takes is one question. One page in a journal. One blog post that says:
You’re not alone.
A Gentle Invitation: Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
If you’ve been on my email list for a while, you may have noticed I took a short break after launch. It wasn’t burnout—it was intentional space to regroup, reflect, and make sure what I send truly serves you. (And if you’re not on my “weekly dose of inspiration” email list, what’s stopping you?)
Starting this week, I’ll be back in your inbox with thoughtful content designed to help you navigate your next chapter with purpose and peace.
There’s no heavy pitch—but if you’re curious about next steps or want to explore tools to support your journey,

If you’ve ever stared into your coffee cup and asked, “What now?”—I want you to know:
That question is sacred. And the answers are already inside you.
